Everybody with a sound mind agreed that cigarette smoking is bad, not only for your health, but other people's health. And to take it further it also affects the physical, psychological as well as social well-being, not to mention the environment and the ecosystem. So you see here, we can have written hundreds of pages to discuss about the disadvantages of cigarette smoking. However, smokers will definitely have hundreds of reasons to support their decision to continue smoking. I'm sure many of us have met doctors who smoke.
Amik hang! Nak sangat isap rokok. Pic source here. |
There are fatwas stating that smoking is haram. Paradoxically, there are still many ustazs who smoke, some heavily. In one of the kuliah I attended the ustaz was comparing smoking and fogging activity. He argued that why the authority allow fogging activity with huge quantity of smoke, but discourage people from taking cigarette where the quantity of smoke is very small. He continued saying 'I wonder why ... ' and arguing the issue using his logic thinking. Not once, if I still remember, he commented on the halal-haram of cigarette smoking. If only I was older and wise enough to argue in that kind of situation, I would have said something... eeee...
Whether we realize it or not, most of us are passive smokers. When my family and I walk into a restaurant, normally we will look for a table far away from smokers, especially now that ummu aiman is pregnant. However it's in the air. Not love, but smoke... (tetiba je dok nyanyi lagu 'Love is in the Air')
There was one time we went to have breakfast. The two apeks seating right next to us smoked after they're done with their roti canai. Then one of them buleh pulak juloq tangan close to aiman by resting his hand with the cigarette between his fingers on the chair next to him. Aiman started coughing and said 'busuk la bau asap ni' but i guess the apek was deaf. S**p*d!! Finally they finished inhaling their precious smokes and blah.
Why can't we have a law that all restaurants and food outlets must have separate areas for smoking and non-smoking patrons? Make it compulsory. Smokers sit outside, or at the kaki-lima. This can be done by the local authorities, the PBTs. Just make sure the enforcement must be there lah.
But the real problem here is these smokers, many of them tak reti bahasa & tak rasa bersalah!
'babey' kata dek orang pahang

Saya pun tak suka rokok dan penghisap rokok. but unfortunately my dad and brother are smokers (& sometimes I can't stop hating them for that).
ReplyDeleteMiss Mya, abang saya pun kuat hisap rokok gak. Tapi perokok berhemah la, takde la main hisap tanpa hiraukan orang... Kdg2 kesian jugak kat depa yg ketagih ni, nak berenti tapi susah.
